uhh.. halp!?! why is my ping high?

GREAT NEWS!!!! I can join the assault server again!! XD

I get a ping of 280ms and was able to play 2-3 sets (u know 11 rounds win then server restarts)

thanks to those who read and gave their opinions!!


also I put some settings to medium and viola! I get an average of 50 fps now XD makes it easier to pwn everyone else!! hehehe

ok so yea remember the 700ms ping problem i had a while back? (read first post lol) its has come back.. much meaner and stronger now lol..

i was playing on assault server around 30 mins ago when suddenly my ping skyrocketed... and not 700 ms high but more than 1000ms ping high !?

so yeah i'm sad that i got interrupted while playing on ur server....

so yeah im gonna just dismiss this as a "hiccup" along the line.. cause this is what tracert shows me...

since we cant play on sr's servers due to our pings rising for some odd reason as we all get the same random lag spike (yeah +sharpshooter+ also gets high ping around 600ms)
so i wanna know how to set up one... i have source dedicated server in steam and i dunno the rest... but when i start the server they do not see it thru the internet and they could not connect if i send them the ip of the server......

so what am i doing wrong here? i port forwarded my router (d-link DI-524 wireless) and still nothing...

is it cause 512 kbps too slow? or i just messed up somwhere....

help a noob on servers :P hehe

If you reboot your dsl modem, is it still the same ping? When I have problems like this, I shut off my modem, router, computer, then reboot everything. Sometimes it fixes the issue.

On your rates, your cl_updaterate should be set at about your lowest fps. The cl_cmdrate should then be set a third higher. If you get 30 fps on the low end, you should set your cl_updaterate to 30, cl_cmdrate to 40. If you then get more than 10 choke all the time, keep lowering the numbers.

updaterate is the rate your system sends info to the server, cmdrate is the rate your system checks the server for new info.

You might want to read CSS 101, you can get much better fps with a good configuration file and low settings for textures etc...

you're in a diff country arent you? Ive heard tell of some internet lines being cut somewhere.... could be connected?

Youre cmdrate needs to be 30 or more thats the most important part.

updaterate can be as low as 20

i rebooted my laptop my network card, my router... still high but this morning its like back to normal (WTF?)

umm yeah so:
cl_cmdrate is set to 40 right now while
cl_updaterate is 20
rate is 7500

on these settings i get like 30-60fps, 5-60 choke and 0-40 loss
depending on the number of players on the server so if i change update rate waht will be affected hammerhead?

i am hard to hit? i thought i was playing bad cause of my settings lol.. like i get hit from 2 meters away and die lol
