Yay! MacWorld 2009 is here!

It's a new and improved MacWorld, though without it's dear leader, and probably without a Mac Tablet, Mac Netbook, or any other cool device.

It's the last MacWorld with Apple's official attendance, so make sure you watch on your favorite blog (Engadget, Gizmodo, etc).

And help out StrafeRight by posting any big news (other than the refresh to the Mac Mini) here during the keynote. Predictions also welcome.

They've been Nvidia only forever, lol now I may have a new fave ATI card manufacturer.

In an attempt to rival the super-slim 13.3" offerings from Apple and Lenovo (among others), MSI is introducing their X-Slim 320 (sounds like a diet) at CES this week.

Not only light, the X320 is also very “thin”. The overall thickness is as small as 1.98 cm, with the thinnest part being only 6 mm. In addition to its lightness and thinness, the X320 also features an excellent battery life in 4 cell or 8 cell battery lasts up to 10 hours. Such an outstanding capability will impress the international market for sure.

In addition to its outstanding capability and excellent performance, the stylish design and fashionable look contributes to X320’s attraction. Its chic and elegant appearance and slim-line shape, together with the Champagne gold, the noble elegance of pearl white or even high-tech stylish black, make it consumers’ dream notebook.
To translate for our US friends, that's:

2.8 pounds
"as small as" .77 inches (I assume this means the fattest is .77", thinnest is 6mm)
13.4" display? hmmm. typo?

More pics to come. My prediction is roughly a $1200 price tag.

MSI -- MICRO-STAR INT'L CO., LTD.

edit: this supposedly uses the Atom cpu, and retails around $999, which I would say would put it in the "super netbook" category - a stylish, larger netbook, more for looks than for processing.

This is what I would think Apple would do in the netbook category.

I'm looking forward to seeing Dell's super-thin notebook - I wonder if they're sourcing off MSI, even. Timing seems coincidental.

edit 2: Chinese Engadget says $800 US. That would be much nicer.

After the popularity of HP's TouchSmart PC's, Lenovo has come out with a stunning new all-in-one called the A600 (typical Lenovo non-cool name):

I won't go into the specs, they're pretty good, lots of optional stuff to keep the base price down.

Believe it or not, some employers frown on gamers, especially those who play FPS titles and MMORPGs. Yes we’re talking about you WoW, CoD, TF2 and CS addicts. The heading is indeed true to some degree, the purpose behind this blog was not to cause waves in the gaming industry, pointing fingers at employers and possible discrimination against a World of Warcraft player, but merely an excerpt from a longer conversation that somehow became blown out of proportion.
“He replied that employers specifically instruct him not to send them World of Warcraft players. He said there is a belief that WoW players cannot give 100 percent because their focus is elsewhere, their sleeping patterns are often not great, etc. I mentioned that some people have written about MMOG leadership experience as a career positive or a way to learn project management skills, and he shook his head. He has been specifically asked to avoid WoW players.”
Interesting... anyone every witness this? Or feel that they've been discriminated against at work because they play games?
